I often get asked to tell people about our district. In a nutshell, DMUSD is great people doing great work. So, what constitutes great work? Great work means doing everything possible to perform at a high level, and this includes all of us – adults and children – thoughtfully putting the pieces into place that we know make an “ideal education.” In DMUSD, we keep a laser focus on doing what we believe is the most important work and doing it well.
I have some wonderful and exciting news to share! On Tuesday, September 24, U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, recognized Ocean Air School as one of 286 schools from across the nation for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award. Ocean Air was one of 13 California public schools, and one of only two schools in San Diego County, to be recognized. According to State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson, “These schools are wonderful illustrations of the work we do here in California schools to prepare our students to thrive in the world they will find outside of our classrooms. I am proud to see them held up as national examples.” As I have shared time and time again, Ocean Air is truly a special place. By combining excellent teaching, remarkable students and exceptional parent and community support, we are able to provide all of our children with a world-class education. Our collective efforts help us to fulfill Del Mar Union School District’s vision of educating for the future: forging a path for tomorrow’s global, innovative thinkers. The entire Ocean Air community can be very proud of the positive recognition granted by the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award, which stands as a mark of excellence in education.
