Information for New Families
Our PTA has put together the New Family Resource Guide below to serve as a roadmap to help guide you through all there is to know about Del Mar Heights. Should you have any questions beyond this information, please don’t hesitate to contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
PTA Website: You’ll find detailed information on upcoming events and programs, important links to school and district information, calendar of events, and so much more. You can even buy Spirit Wear through our online shop!
Del Mar Heights School Website: Since you’re reading this on our school’s website, we figure you’ve already discovered what a great resource it is! We recommend you bookmark it, along with the PTA website for quick reference.
Dolphin Digest Weekly eNewsletter: This is a great way to keep up to date on breaking school news. The Dolphin Digest is the primary method of communication for the school. We send out weekly updates, event reminders, volunteer needs, and even items that don’t make it into your child’s school folder. Every once in awhile, we may send you more than one email a week to give you a heads up about important events. Your privacy is guaranteed – we will never sell or share your email address. Click HERE to subscribe.
PTA Coffees: Here, you can meet other parents, share ideas, hear directly about school happenings and become more involved in the school community. Our general meetings are held four times a year (Sept. 21, Nov. 16, Jan. 18, March 15). Check the PTA Calendar for updates on time and place. We hope that you can join us and voice your support and ideas for your children!
PTA and School Calendar of events: Keep up with the latest dates via the online PTA Calendar, which is compiled by both PTA and school administrators. The calendar is continually updated, so check back frequently or even better, sync it to your personal calendar.
After School Program: The District operates an After School Program for families on the school campus until 6 pm. It also offers after-school Enrichment classes that generally meets once or twice a week for an hour or so each class. You can peruse the schedule and enroll your child on the District’s After School Program page.
Del Mar Union School District Site: You’ll find information on district-wide policies and news here, as well as a list of staff members.
School Phone Calls, Texts & Emails: These are made and sent based on the information listed on the yellow information cards families turned in during the first week of school. Please make sure your phone and email info are current. You can update all information at the school office.
Our Del Mar Heights community is built through volunteering, whether in the classroom or for PTA programs and events. Volunteering doesn’t mean a huge time commitment. Whatever time your schedule permits, whether it’s an hour a month or an hour a week, we greatly appreciate it! We also value special skills, connections or talents you would be willing to share. Every little bit helps! Becoming active is really easy and it makes a difference in our children's’ educational experience.
PTA Volunteer Opportunities: Check out some of the ways you can get involved and contribute to the enrichment of your child's Del Mar Heights community in our Volunteer Brochure. Have an idea you want to pursue? Let us know about it!
Working in the Classroom: One of the most valuable ways to support your child(ren)’s learning is to volunteer in the classroom. Each teacher has his or her own way of using parent volunteers, from assisting in the classroom, to copying homework packets, to leading art projects. Please be sure to contact your child’s teacher to learn how you can help. To volunteer, you will just need to bring a copy of your current TB test to the office and complete the volunteer declaration form.
Room Parents: The role of Room Parent varies from class to class depending on the teacher. Typically, the Room Parent organizes class parties at the holidays and coordinates parent volunteers for special projects, events or field trips. The Room Parent is also a critical liaison between teachers and parents for many PTA functions, such as the Fall Harvest Fest, Jog-a-thon and Countdown to Summer event. Most teachers ask for Room Parent volunteers at Back-to-School Night. After that, Ani Bhoumik, our Room Parent Coordinator, will keep the Room Parents up to date on all PTA happenings!
School Directory: The PTA uses an online school directory called MySchoolAnywhere. This allows for new families to be able to add their information during the school year. The MySchoolAnywhere online directory provides a secure, password-protected website for PTA members. Click here for more information.
Spirit Wear: Kids, parents, and teachers alike show their school pride by wearing Heights shirts. Visit the PTA’s online shop to order spirit wear. Order forms are also available in the school office. We also sell spirit wear directly at special events, such as the Fall Harvest Fest.
PTA Contact Information: Need to reach a specific PTA person? You can find a list of Board Members and Program Chairs with their contact information on the PTA website.
Your Donations At Work
Del Mar Heights PTA: The PTA works closely with the staff at Del Mar Heights School to support and inspire a lifelong love of learning in each of our students. Through PTA Grants, we’ve supplied our STEAM+ and classroom teachers with equipment, books, software, hardware technologies and other materials they otherwise would not have. One hundred percent of science and library materials (including the eBook library) are funded by the PTA. Your generous contributions supports more than 50 programs at Del Mar Heights, from Science Fridays, Farm-to-Table, Student Clubs, the Garden Program, the Social Emotional Curriculum, the Drama Program, and so much more. Please check the PTA’s Fundraising page for more information on programs and how you can contribute.
Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF): This non-profit organization purpose is to raise money to pay for STEAM+ teacher salaries for all the elementary schools in the district. While the PTA pays for STEAM+ equipment and supplies, DMSEF pays for STEAM+ teacher salaries. Our school needs both.
Free Money for Our School
In addition to our three main fundraising efforts during the school year — Annual Giving Campaign, Jog-a-Thon, Spring Gala — there are affiliate programs that increase our fundraising efforts and cost nothing more than a few minutes of your time to sign up, plus friends and family can participate, too. Programs include eScrip, Ralph’s Community Contribution Program and Amazon Smile. You can learn more about these programs and how to sign up on the PTA Website.
