New Student Registration for 2017-2018
Please note:  To be eligible for enrollment a student must currently be residing in the Del Mar Union School District.  Families in the process of moving into the school district may register a student once the student's residency in the District is established.
2017-2018 Timeline
April 3   
 First Day of registration at all school sites through June 16, 2017.

June 16

All school offices close for summer.  School information and office hours.

June 19

Summer registration for new students begins at the District Office.

August 7

First day of registration for pending residents in escrow, moving in by October 15.

August 14

Superintendent's Back to School Letter mailed to parents.

Parents will be notified by August 14 of status of Intradistrict Transfer or Option Area application.

August 25

New student orientation at all schools.  Check school's website for exact time.

Class lists available for viewing online at 5:00 pm.
Please note:  If your student's enrollment packet, including immunizations, is not complete, your
student's name will not appear on a class list.

August 28

First day of school.  

Kindergarten school hours: 8:00 am - 12:40 pm, except Wednesday dismissal at 12:30 pm.
Grade 1st-6th school hours: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm, except Wednesday dismissal at 12:30 pm.
October 9

Start of full day kindergarten schedule.
School hours: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm, except Wednesday dismissal at 12:30 pm.
Important Notice for Kindergarten Parents
Your child must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. 
For parents with children currently enrolled in the Del Mar Union School District, please compete Step 2 only to enroll siblings for the 2017-2018 school year.
STEP 1:  Families new to the District access the online portal to pre-register, then submit documents to school of residence.
You will receive the following email from Illuminate Education after you complete Step 1.
  • Welcome to the Online Pre-Registration Process! District administration is reviewing the school request information for your child.  As soon as a school designation is made you will be able to fill out a pre-registration form. You will receive an email notification once this information becomes available in your portal account.
New families - please continue to Step 2, and submit documents listed below in order to receive the second email notification regarding school designation.
STEP 2:  Submit documents to your school of residence.
Please submit items 1-4 below to your school of residence.  Forms can be dropped off at your child's school until Friday, June 16, 2017.  Office hours are 7:30 am-3:30 pm.  After school offices close for the summer, enrollment will begin at the District Office on Monday, June 19, 2017.   Incomplete pre-registration forms will not be accepted.
  1. Registration Forms - Please download and complete these forms using your computer, and print out all pages.  You will need the latest version of Adobe Acrobat to download these forms.  Forms are also available at all school sites and the District Office.
  2. Verification of age (birth certificate, passport or baptismal certificate)
  3. Immunization records - Your child will not be assigned a teacher until all immunizations are cleared.
  4. Two of the following documents are required for proof of residency:
  • Current Gas & Electric, Water or Cable Bill/Contract
  • Current Telephone Bill/Contract (land line - not cellular)
  • Lease Agreement/Rent Receipt (must be signed by both tenant and landlord, listing names of all residents)
  • Grant Deed or Property Tax Statement (must accompany at least one utility bill)
  • Paycheck Stub, Voter Registration or Government Correspondence
  • If applicable - Caregiver Affidavit / Residency Verification Form / Shared Residence Affidavit

Additional Health Requirements for Kindergarten and 1st Grade
The District complies with state-mandated health requirements for school entry.
  • CHDP Report of Health Examination for entry to Kindergarten and 1st grade must be signed by the doctor performing the physical (done within 6 months of entry to Kindergarten or 1st grade)Download CHDP Form

The CHDP and Oral Health Assessment form are not needed to start the enrollment process; however, DMUSD asks that these forms be completed before your child begins kindergarten.
For a complete list of required immunizations and health documentation for registration, see Health/Immunization Requirements.  If your child has allergies, diabetes or other health conditions or takes medication during the school day, you will be contacted by school staff to submit additional health forms.  Hearing and vision tests will be completed by the school nurse during the year.

STEP 3:  Parent Portal for New Families Only
Once your pre-registration paperwork is complete and received by the school or District office staff, you will receive an email with your school designation and instructions on how to complete the online portion of your child's registration.  Please call the District Office with any questions (858-755-9301 ext. 3688).
School of Residence
Please check the Del Mar Union School District School Locator to determine your school of residence. It is a quick reference guide to the streets included in the District's attendance area. Enter your complete address, city and zip code and click "Find My Schools."  Zoom in using the + symbol.  The house icon can also be dragged to a more accurate location on the map. Only the elementary school within your attendance area will be listed.  If two schools are listed that means the address is in an Option Area.  District staff will contact you only if your child CANNOT be placed at your school of residence.

What is an Option Area?
An Option Area is a designated area within the attendance boundaries of a specific school site. Families that reside in an Option Area will have the "option" to attend one of two schools designated to their Option Area.  Admittance to the schools is based on space available. A student enrolled in an option area school will have resident status and may remain enrolled at the school through 6th grade (or as long as the student lives in the DMUSD boundary). The District will make every attempt to place children in one of the two option area schools; however, if both schools are at capacity, a family may request their child be placed at any DMUSD school that has space available. Can I request to have my child attend another DMUSD school?
Parents who wish to have their child attend a school other than their school of residence must complete an Application for Intradistrict Transfer and submit it to your school of residence or the District office.  Download Application for Intradistrict Transfer.  Applications are also available at school or the District office. District staff will contact you via email in mid-August after your application has been reviewed.
School Assignment
At certain times of the year, DMUSD schools may be at or near capacity.  When that occurs, new students are assigned to another DMUSD school where space is available.  For current information on a school's enrollment capacity, contact Student Services at 858-755-9301 ext. 3688.  Every effort is made to place students at the school in their attendance area; however, due to the growth within the District in the last several years and the District's commitment to maintain balanced, low class sizes at all school sites, it has been necessary to establish district-wide school placement procedures.  The placement of each student will be handled according to established Board approved priority designations and Board Policy/Administrative Regulations 5111, 5116, 5116.1.  Students are placed at a school on a space available basis.  It may not be possible to honor every request regarding school preference.
Residency Verification
If any District employee reasonably believes the parent/guardian of a student has provided false or unreliable evidence of residency, the District shall make reasonable efforts to determine if the student meets residency requirements. Reasonable efforts include, but are not limited to home visits and investigation by a private detective. Falsification of any information or documents, either written or verbal will result in revocation of enrollment.

DMUSD Child Nutrition Program
DMUSD offers excellent lunch service for students through Choicelunch.  If you would like to participate,  please create an account at and follow the link to the Choicelunch ordering webpage.  Each meal includes a pre-ordered entrée, student's choice of seasonal fruits and vegetables, a healthy snack, and choice of beverage.

Please Note: Students currently in attendance in Del Mar schools are automatically registered for the upcoming school year, unless the school office is notified that the family is moving.
