Search Firm Gathers Input for New Superintendent Search
The DMUSD Board of Trustees contracted with The Cosca Group to assist in the search and selection of a new superintendent. A critical component in the process was for all stakeholders to have an opportunity to give input on four questions: 1) What do you consider to be the greatest strengths of the Del Mar Union School District? 2) What do you consider to be the greatest needs/issues facing the District? 3) What leadership qualities and characteristics do you wish to see in the new superintendent in order to support the strengths and deal with the needs/critical issues? 4) What will be the greatest challenges a new superintendent will face?
On Wednesday, June 11, 2008, the Board held a Special Board Meeting with The Cosca Group to review the input received from all stakeholders across the district.

Rose Graves Honored by North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE)
Congratulations to Ms. Rose Graves, Special Day Classroom Aide at Carmel Del Mar, for being selected for an Excellence in Special Education Award. Ms. Graves was recognized by the Board of Trustees at the May 28, 2008 Board meeting and applauded by DMUSD staff at the Year-End Celebration/Ice Cream Social held on June 3, 2008.
Each year the NCCSE Community Advisory Committee solicits nominations to honor individuals whose teaching or leadership skills enhance student self-esteem and dignity, encourage students to achieve their maximum potential and assist schools in providing excellent programs for students with special needs. The award recipients are selected anonymously from nominations received from 14 NCCSE member districts based on how strongly they meet the award criteria.
The award winners were honored at the 2008 North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) Award Ceremony held on Monday, June 2, 2008 at the San Marcos Community Center.
According to Carmel Del Mar’s Principal, David Jones, “Rose is an exemplary educator who is very deserving of this fine award.” Congratulations, Rose!

DMUSD Schedules Community Input Forums for Superintendent Search
On May 14, 2008, the Board of Trustees approved the selection of The Cosca Group to assist in the selection of the new superintendent. A critical component in the selection process is to obtain input from community members. Therefore, three community input meetings to gather information related to the search for a new superintendent have been scheduled, as follows:
Date: May 29, 2008 Time: 7:00 p.m. Ocean Air School, MUR 11444 Canter Heights Drive San Diego 92130
Date: June 2, 2008 Time: 9:30 a.m. Ashley Falls School, MUR 13030 Ashley Falls Drive San Diego 92130
Date: June 2, 2008 Time: 7:00 p.m. Del Mar Hills Academy, MUR 14085 Mango Drive Del Mar 92014)
During each meeting, the consultants will provide an overview of the process, and then ask three primary questions:
* What do you see as the strengths of the district? * What do you see as the critical issues/needs facing the district? * What are the desirable characteristics for the next superintendent?
If you are not able to attend a scheduled meeting, please open the link to the Written Input Form

Congratulations, Uma Krishnan, 2008 DMUSD Teacher of the Year
Congratulations, Uma Krishnan, 2008 DMUSD Teacher of the Year
On Friday, April 4th, Interim Superintendent, Janet Bernard, had the pleasure of announcing to the Torrey Hills’ staff that Mrs. Uma Krishnan, Science teacher at Torrey Hills, is the 2008 DMUSD Teacher of the Year! When asked about Uma she said, “Uma is an amazingly gifted teacher who inspires all students to explore the wonderful world of science. She is highly worthy of this special recognition.”
Uma is described as an outstanding teacher who goes above and beyond by giving hours of her own time to provide a fantastic hands-on science curriculum to all students at Torrey Hills. Students know Mrs. Krishnan as a dynamic, creative and caring teacher, whose science lab is like a visit to a great museum. Have you ever dissected a squid? Held a live turtle or lizard? Watched chickens hatch from eggs? Built a tower out of K'Nex and have it tested on the UCSD Shake Platform? If you are a Torrey Hills student, you have experienced many of these things in Mrs. Krishnan’s science lab.
