Del Mar Schools Education Foundation Challenge Week

This week all of the schools in our district are engaging in an all out effort to raise enough money to prevent pink slips from being sent to our precious ESC teachers. Each school is being asked to raise their fair share of the goal. For our school, this means raising an additional $130,000.

It's hard to imagine our school without Mr. Philip, but the reality is that without Foundation funds to support his position, we would not have a dedicated PE teacher at our school because the District does not provide any funds toward this position. As we look back on the past year, who can remember many moments as utterly delightful as the entire student body doing the "Thriller" dance on Halloween. It was magical.

Our school is still at just under 30% participation, so we are a long ways from our goal of 100% participation. It is without question that if we all step up we can meet our goal.

PLEASE, if you haven't given, give now. No donation is too small. If you've already given and can give more, please step up and give again. We ask for $800/child but understand that not everyone can give this. All we ask is that you give what you can.

An information sheet and donation envelop went home in your child's backpack on Friday. We had planned to have volunteers at the curb during drop off and pick up this week. With the rains, our intrepid volunteers may be under the covered patio or a tent or umbrellas. We know that the giving spirit of our school community cannot not be dampened by the weather. You can drop your envelop in the office at any time this week, as well.

Help us meet our goal by January 22nd to win our school a $1,000 grant.

Our school collected 153,309 pennies!

Del Mar Heights School was able to collect $1,533.00 to help build schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Two other local schools also raised money for Pennies for Peace. Bravo to Del Mar Hills which collected an impressive 201,100 pennies! Solana Vista's families generously donated 95,000 pennies. Great job! All together we raised $4,494.00. What a wonderful example this experience has been of our community coming together to create positive changes in the world. This truly shows that when you work together anything is possible, even if your goal can only be achieved one penny at a time. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Alexa McGuire for all of her help orchestrating this program.

Understanding Differences

Understanding Differences, created by Del Mar Heights' parent Dr. Jennifer Friedman and supported by the staff, PTA and parents will begin its fifth year of implementation. Grade level topics include: motor disabilities in kindergarten and fourth grade, vision in first and third grades, hearing in second grade, health and fitness in fifth grade, and cognition and communication in sixth grade.
