As you prepare to put aside those flip flops in lieu of running shoes, please review the Del Mar Heights School Dress Code before you go shopping. History has proven that many children grow several inches during the summer! So, those shorts that were school appropriate in the spring may need to be saved for more casual wear now. If you have questions about whether an outfit is appropriate for school, it isn't!
DEL MAR HEIGHTS SCHOOL DRESS CODE
We often act the way we dress. Students who come to school dressed appropriately are more
likely to have an attitude conducive to learning. Clothes worn to school should be appropriate
for elementary school activities.
The following is considered inappropriate:
• Clothing that is frayed, torn, or has holes.
• Clothing advertising alcohol or containing disrespectful words, signs or symbols.
• Midriff tops, haltertops or any attire which exposes the midriff when arms are lifted.
Tank tops must have a minimum of a 1” strap. Undergarments should not be visible.
• Pants hanging below the waist.
• Shorts, skirts, skorts and dresses shorter than mid thigh. These items should be no
higher than “fingertip” length.
• Make up, false nails, colored hair gel or spray.
In order to participate in physical education and recess activities, footwear that provides
adequate protection is to be worn at all times. The shoes must cover the toes and have back
heel support. No high or thick-heeled shoes or sandals may be worn. Tennis shoes or sneakers
are recommended. Shoes with wheels should not be worn to school.
The wearing of hats is encouraged for sun protection, but hats may not be worn inside the
building or during class. We encourage all children to wear sunscreen daily. You may send a
bottle of sunscreen marked with your child’s name for use at school.
Please write your child’s name on all wearing apparel.
