The entire Sage Canyon staff is thrilled to honor Tina with Teacher of Year recognition! Tina Johnson is an outstanding Resource Specialist at Sage Canyon School. Tina works tirelessly to ensure that all students experience success at Sage Canyon School as well as classroom teachers. Her knowledge of learning styles is vast and she is always able to suggest or modify a learning experience to reach a wider expanse of learners or “push-in” a classroom to co-teach, facilitate a lesson, or mediate a group. Tina has a wonderful rapport with all students and provides structures and programs that enhance mutual support and respect among students. She fully comprehends and embraces the social, emotional, and academic needs of children and promotes self responsibility and teamwork by involving students in decisions that, in turn, strengthen their choices and behaviors. This year Tina and a colleague developed a student leadership team for students to work together to promote understanding and acceptance of all types of classmates. Tina also has a wonderful rapport with parents and families and consistently models effective communication skills. She fully comprehends the importance of interdependence and collaboration with parents, colleagues, and community. Tina has a very positive impact on Sage Canyon School and works tirelessly, thoughtfully, and steadily to create a learning community that supports the needs of all students.Tina is an avid and reflective learner. No task or experience is too big for her to conquer. She has the capacity to continually learn and reflect on her skills and to immediately transfer and apply previous learning to new experiences.

Congratulations to Sage Canyon fourth grade teacher, Shauna Friedemann, for being selected for The Distinguished Teacher in Residence (DTiR) program at Cal State San Marcos. Shauna will be on loan to Cal Sate San Marcos for the 08-09 and 09-10 school years. The DTiR program evolved out of a mutual desire for local school districts to be directly involved in teacher preparation at the university and the university faculty's desire to remain closely connected with schools. Shauna will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining close connections between teacher education and exemplary school practices by training new teachers in current concepts of teacher roles, instructional pedagogy and effective schools as practiced in model area schools.
