2010-2011 Student Supply Wish Lists

Thank you for your incredible support of teaching and learning at Sage Canyon School this year. Below, in the recent publications portion of this website, are grade level specific lists of supplies that parents may voluntarily purchase for the 2010-2011 school year. Please click on your child's grade level to download the supply list order form.  If you elect to purchase a student supply kit through the PTA, the supplies will be delivered to your child's teacher prior to the first day of school. The deadline to order has been extended to June 10, 2010.

Sage Canyon Achieves a 10/10 Ranking in Similar Schools Report

Recently, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced the release of public school rankings and the Base Academic Performance Index (API) report. This spring report is a part of California’s annual reporting cycle of academic growth and achievement. It is commonly referred to as the Similar Schools Report.

The Similar Schools Report is based on a school's base API, which is calculated using the CST results of the previous year. To determine the similar schools rank for a school, a comparison group of 100 similar schools of the same type is formed for that school, based on similar demographic characteristics. The APIs for this group of 100 schools are ranked into ten categories of equal size, called deciles, from one (lowest) to ten (highest). Each decile contains 10 percent of all of the 100 similar schools in the comparison group. The school's similar schools rank is the decile where that school's base API falls compared with the base APIs of the 100 other similar schools in the comparison group. I am pleased to report that Sage Canyon Elementary School received a 10/10 ranking in the Similar Schools report. Sage Canyon’s sustained growth in CST scores, the Academic Performance Index (API), and the similar schools ranking serve as indicators that the focused efforts and hard, intelligent work of the entire Sage Canyon staff and parent community continually impact individual student learning and school-wide student achievement.

Chris Delehanty Appointed Assistant Principal

   At a the Regular Board Meeting held on May 26, 2010, the Board of Trustees of the Del Mar Union School District announced the appointment of Mr. Christopher Delehanty as its new Assistant Principal.  The District staff and the Board of Trustees are looking forward to working with Chris in his new position, effective for the 2010-2011 school year.
   Mr. Delehanty is currently a fifth grade teacher at Sage Canyon School.  Chris earned his BA at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA, and his MA at National University in San Diego, and has completed his California Administrative Services Credential.                             .
   As a member of the District’s Leadership Team, Chris will play an integral part in supporting the staff, students, and families of our larger elementary schools. Chris was born and raised in the state of Maine and loves the Red Sox, sailing with his father in Maine, and spending time with his wife, Margaret, and their two boys, Jeremy and Eli.
