Sycamore Ridge School
Principal, Emily Morris’ Bio
It has been rewarding to take an active leadership role in promoting education as a member of the Del Mar Union School District for the past 14 years. Prior to my appointment opening brand new Sycamore Ridge School four years ago, I was the Assistant Principal at Torrey Hills School for one year, and a classroom teacher in grades three through five for nearly two decades! Eleven of those years in the classroom were spent instructing third and fourth graders in the Del Mar Union School District. Throughout my career in education, my passion for literacy, coupled with my strong desire to share exemplary teaching practices led to numerous experiences serving the educational community in staff development, district and countywide. During my tenure as a classroom teacher, I found it very rewarding to serve as a language and reading mentor and consultant to the outstanding teachers of the Del Mar Union School District, as well as colleagues in San Diego County. As an administrator with a passion for curriculum and instruction, I find great enjoyment from the instructional leadership that the Principalship has to offer.
Working with the outstanding staff and families of Sycamore Ridge to build bridges for maximized student learning is the most rewarding part of my job. A highlight of the day, however, is greeting the smiling children as they arrive to school each day happy and eager to learn.
As a native Californian, and daughter to University Professors, I learned at an early age the value of education and life-long learning. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in the fine arts and obtaining my multiple subjects teaching credential, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning (with a specialization in reading) and both a tier one and tier two administrative credential.
San Diego is arguably the “finest city”… and how fortunate I am to be able to live and work in the Del Mar/Solana Beach area, and for the best school district in the state! I am the proud mother to a daughter at the University of California, Irvine and son who is a senior in high school. I love spending my free time with family (my children, especially; I think I enjoy it much more than they do!) and friends, jogging, skiing, and traveling.
