Ms. Swanberg is in her 15th year of teaching at the Hills. Before she was a science teacher, she was a NASA Principal Investigator. After staying home for awhile to raise her family, Ms. Swanberg discovered she loved teaching while volunteering in her child's classroom. She went back to school and earned Multiple Subject and Science Content Matter teaching credentials.  She has always pursued another interest, music.  She has played viola in university and community orchestras wherever she's lived including the Ann Arbor Symphony, Ottawa Symphony, and currently the La Jolla Symphony where she is the Assistant Principal Violist.  In 2003, she found the perfect place to share her passions, the Del Mar Hills Academy of Arts and Sciences where she teaches science and engineering.  When asked about her teaching she explains, "I hope to inspire my students, through inquiry and discovery, so that they develop their own enthusiasm for learning."  Ms. Swanberg has been recognized consistently for her teaching including:
2018            Exemplary STEM Teacher CSUSM and North County Professional Development Federation
2007-2008   Site Teacher of the Year
2009-2010   District Math Teacher of the Year
