A little bit about me...
This is my 20th year teaching in the Del Mar Union School District, and I couldn't feel more blessed to be doing something that I love every day of my life! Before coming to Sycamore Ridge in 2010 to teach 1st and then 2nd grade, I taught 2nd grade at Ashley Falls for 6 years and 3rd grade at Sage Canyon for 4 years. I have a bachelor's degree in History and a master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Technology.
I’m always reflecting and trying to improve my craft as a teacher, and I have high expectations for my students as well. I understand that the classroom is not a “one size fits all” environment, and I work to meet the needs of all of my students by differentiating and tailoring curriculum. My students learn through involvement in their learning experiences. I create and encourage opportunities to problem solve, critically think, and discover. My hope is to motivate my students to develop a love of lifelong learning.
Before I became a teacher, I worked in the medical field for 10 years and then took time off to travel with my husband, Patrick, around the western US, Canada, and Mexico. I believe these outside experiences have made me a well-rounded person, as well as a better educator. We still love to travel, and this past summer, my family and I spent time in the Abacos Islands of The Bahamas. The water was postcard perfect, and we will definitely be returning in the foreseeable future! I'm looking forward to hearing all about your summer as well!
I was born and raised in Vista, and now my family and I live in 4S Ranch. My daughter, Sophie, is 19 years old, and she is in her sophomore year at San Francisco State University. My daughter, Katy, is 15 years old, and she is in 10th grade at Cathedral Catholic High School. I spend my days doing something that I am passionate about, teaching, and enjoying time with my family.
I hope you are all excited about the school year ahead. I can't wait to meet you, and I know we are going to have the best time learning and having fun together!
