• Meet Ms. Shepherd

Hi!  My name is Lisa Shepherd.  I am so happy to be your child's teacher.  Probably the most important thing I can tell you about myself is that I love my job! I always knew I would be a teacher and now realizing I have been living my dream for almost 30 years is baffling to me. I feel I have never worked a day in my life.

Educationally, I did my undergrad at University Colorado Boulder in Art and Education, and received a Masters in Special Education from San Diego State.  I started my teaching career in Lake Tahoe and have been teaching in Del Mar for twenty-nine years. My first position was first grade at Del Mar Hills. Would you believe there were only two schools! Currently I have taught kindergarten, first and second grades, two 1/2 combination classes, and worked at Del Mar Hills, Carmel Del Mar, and Sage Canyon.  In 1996 I was the Del Mar teacher of the year.  In 1998 I was selected as the North Coastal Inclusion Teacher of the Year. And most recently, in 2016, I was selected as Sage Canyon's Teacher of the Year.  My passion remains the same; sending on competent learners and compassionate people.

Every summer I reconnect with being a learner by learning something new. This summer I learned to play Pickle Ball. I have a 22 year old daughter who is finishing up a dual credential in general and special education and teaches preschool.

I truly love all parts of my job including the team aspect between teachers, family and school. I am happy to back in first and bring components of the MLS (Modern Learning Studio) with flexible seating, student choice and project based learning. I look forward to getting to know all of you.  It's going to be a magical year.
