    Meet Sheldon

Sheldon with backpack, glasses and apple. Ready for school! Sheldon swimming

Sheldon is a facility dog from Canine Companions for Indepedence who will be working with all the students at Sycamore Ridge. Facility dogs are expertly trained dogs that partner with a facilitator (myself) in a professional setting. Canine Companions facility dogs are trustworthy in professional environments and can perform over 40 commands designed to motivate and inspire students with special needs.

Sheldon is a 2 year old Golden Retriever. He was carefully bred and expertly trained by Canine Companions specifically for this type of work, so he is not only friendly and fun, he is also very sweet and gentle. Sheldon was provided by Canine Companions free of charge.

    Some things to know!

    • Sheldon provides therapy in a designated room
    • Sheldon is required to be properly identified at all time as a working facility dog with a vest
    • Sheldon remains with the teacher while on property. When not providing services, he is in his bed or crate
    • Please always ask before you pet Sheldon; he loves to shake hands, but it's important to ask first because he is working and we don't want to distract him.
