Meet Mr. RingHi! My name is Tony Ring-Dowell and I am very excited to teach 1st Grade at Sage Canyon School!
I’m originally from Lake Tahoe, but lived in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. I moved to San Diego two years ago and I’m excited to be back in southern California and set down roots in an amazing area . For my undergraduate degree, I went to the University of Southern California and majored in Political Science. USC is also where I met my future husband, whom I married in 2012. Four years ago we adopted two cats from the SPCA, Oliver and Rue. They’re our only (fur) babies for now, but we hope to have children in the next few years.
This is my ninth year of teaching and my fourth at Sage Canyon. I first taught at a charter school in San Jose, then moved to a public school in the Mission District of San Francisco. I think 1st Grade is the best grade because students have developed a lot of responsibility and are so eager to learn new things. I love making “wow!” moments in my classroom that really stretch my students minds and challenge their thinking. I place a lot of emphasis on social emotional learning and teaching kids how to be good people, not just good students. In my free time, I like playing video games, building furniture, snowboarding, yoga, cycling, and cooking.
I look forward to a fantastic 2019-2020 school year and can’t wait to meet my new students and families!
