Stephen Cochrane, Ph.D.

Stephen and his wife Aimee have lived in Carmel Valley since 2004. They have two sons (Kindergarten and Third grade) who attend Sage Canyon Elementary School.
Stephen has a Ph.D. in Education, a M.A. in Special Education, and a B.A. in Literature. He has four California State Teaching Credentials and an Administrative Service Credential. He earned three Business, Finance, and Leadership Certificates in Education from Cornell University. He attended public schools in San Diego and graduated from Mira Mesa High School.
Stephen has over 20 years of experience in the field of education as a Special Education professor, university administrator, academic researcher, and K-12 teacher. Currently, he is the System-wide Director of Special Education Credential programs, System-wide Director of the Master of Arts in Education (MAE) degree programs, and the Director of Accreditation for the California School of Education at Alliant International University.
Stephen has presented at peer-reviewed national and international education conferences on a variety of topics and his work has appeared in peer-reviewed publications.
Stephen has served on the Board of Directors to four non-profit corporations and served as Treasurer on his HOA. For two years, he was a member of the Special Education Advisory Board to the California Office of Administrative Hearings. Currently, he is an executive board member on the Sage Canyon Parent-Teacher Association, is involved in the Dad's club at Sage Canyon, and volunteers in his children's classrooms. He participates in his children's activities including the Cub Scouts and Indian Guides.
Steve is serving his first term as an elected member of the school board. He is currently serving as the Board representative to the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) and alternates with other members as Board Liaison to the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF).
