Degrees and Certifications:
Jodi Neilson is the current Music Teacher at Torrey Hills and Sycamore Ridge Schools. She has had 29 years of experience as a public school music educator and classroom teacher in California, Hawaii, and New Zealand. Ms. Neilson received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from San Diego State University. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Point Loma Nazarene University. She possesses Professional Clear Multiple Subject, Single Subject-Music, and Preliminary Administrative Services credentials. In addition, she holds certification in GATE Instruction and Orff Schulwerk.
In 2004, Ms. Neilson was named the Del Mar Union School District Teacher of the Year. During the school year 2008-2009, Ms. Neilson was awarded the San Diego County Music Educator of the Year. Her highest honor was received in 2010 as the CMEA-SBS California State Outstanding Music Educator. Ms. Neilson has held leadership positions as DMUSD Instrumental and Choral Festival Coordinator, Administrative Designee, Student Council Advisor, and DMUSD teacher representative for the San Diego Arts Network, Strategic Planning/Action Teams, School Site Council, Principal’s Advisory Council, FAME, CMEA, and MENC.
Ms. Neilson has had the opportunity to teach all students ranging from elementary through university. Her passion is elementary education. She has taught in the Del Mar, Poway, Escondido, and Cardiff school districts. She was the music director at Dargaville Intermediate School in New Zealand and Kahuku High School in Hawaii. She worked at San Diego State University for 13 years as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Bands, percussion coach, and color guard advisor/choreographer.
