Hannah Russell—5th Grade Teacher
858-755-1060 (Room D2)
Hello! I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade at Sycamore Ridge this year. I am orginially from the suburbs of Chicago, IL and have lived in Orange County, CA for about four years. I am excited to be moving to San Diego and teaching for Del Mar USD. I graduated from Biola University (summa cum laude) with a B.A. degree in Liberal Studies Elementary Education and a Spanish concentration in 2017. Also, I completed my student teaching program through Biola University where I earned my CA Multiple Subject teaching credential (CLAD certified). My student teaching experiences were completed through both public and charter schools in Orange County, where I have been living for the past four years. Last year, I taught Kindergarten through 6th grade as an intervention Impact Teacher in Anaheim and taught a STEM Academy third grade class this summer. I have taken over 9 years of Spanish and love being able to use it to help my students who are Spanish-speakers. All of these experiences have increased my passion for education and have grown my heart for students. I believe every student deserves and is capable of educational and personal growth. Each student has unique gifts and skills and passions that ought to be discovered and encouraged within a positive environment. As a teacher, it is truly a great honor and privilege to foster this environment. I am a lover of learning, reading, teaching, education, nature, and working with people. My students and their learning are my priority and I love being able to help each child grow in their skills.
I have been living in Orange County, CA area for about four years and have absolutely loved exploring all of the beaches and hiking trails in the area. I have a passion for languages and cultures, especially Spanish, which I have been able to use often in my career. My family still lives in Chicago, IL so I look forward to times that I get to go back and visit them during the year. Last year, I served as a sixth grade girls small group leader at my church and got to be their camp counselor and get to know them, which was so fun. In my free time, I love to be outside! Hikes, surfing, exploring new beaches, and spending time with close friends are some of my favorite things to do. Also, I love to read! Reading inspirational books is a favorite past time of mine. I am an avid coffee drinker and love finding new local coffee shops. I am new to San Diego and am excited to explore the area!
