  • Summer Learning Activities

It’s hard to believe this school year is drawing to a close. It is definitely a year that will never be forgotten. In an effort to support families with learning options over the summer, Instructional Services has created sample schedules and optional learning activities for every week during the summer. Summer activities have been developed to support a combination of online and offline learning and the activities do not need to be followed in a particular sequence. Dear DMUSD Families, I hope this finds your family healthy and happy! This past week has been a whirlwind of activity behind the scenes in our District! We have an amazing team districtwide – people who are committed, engaged, and optimistic about the steps we are taking to to support student learning. In just a very short period of time, so much has been done! Online learning platforms have been launched. Staff members have been learning how to teach remotely. Teachers have begun providing learning resources for students, and currently, we are planning for next steps in this phase of remote learning for our students. We anticipate having more opportunities for interaction and connectivity for students and teachers. Please read the linked attachment for more details.

  • COVID-19 UPDATE, SCHOOL CLOSURE

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we move through this unprecedented time. You may be aware that Governor Gavin Newsom, in his update on the state's response to the Coronavirus, stated that it is unlikely that schools will open before the summer break. It is important to note that he offered an opinion and has not at this time issued an order for a state-mandated closure of schools. At this time, the opening and closing of schools is locally controlled by school district superintendents, based on guidance from the San Diego County Office of Education and the San Diego County Department of Health and Human Services Agency. Yesterday, in a guidance meeting for San Diego County Superintendents, Dr. Wilma Wooten, Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Officer, stated the current guidelines for San Diego County, which at this time are in place through March 31st. Based on this guidance, we are not planning to reopen DMUSD schools prior to Monday, April 13th. It is important to note that this may change, and if it does, we will provide notice right away. Please read the linked attachment for more details.
