Students learn critical thinking skills, collaboration, and application of the content of their grade-level curriculum.  The learning that takes place in this class compliments the students’ school studies by allowing them to go into greater depth and often explore new topics of interest.

Students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade serve as school leaders. They plan exciting events for the school and Torrey Hills community, including Pasta for Pennies and The Great Kindness Challenge. They organize school-wide spirit days, run spirit assemblies, and support the PTA with many amazing events.

Erica graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences with an emphasis in English and a minor in Child Development. During the last two years of undergrad, she worked as a pre-school teacher and fell in love with teaching. She continued her education at SDSU and completed a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential.  After graduating from the teacher credential program, Erica moved to Europe and taught at a public school in London for two years.  During this time, she took every opportunity to travel the world, eager to explore and gain insight into different cultures.  Upon returning to San Diego, Erica began teaching at Torrey Hills Elementary School. Erica’s commitment to be a life-long learner led her back to college to earn her Master’s in Education at California State University at San Marcos. She obtained her Administrative Credential in 2009 and has served the district in a number of leadership roles.  For a combination of eight years, Erica has taught fourth and sixth grade at Torrey Hills. This is her fourth year serving the school as the STEAM+ teacher.
