Jr. Olympics at Del Mar Hills is just around the corner. It will take place this year on Wednesday, April 3rd from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The Jr. Olympics is a free skills competition that provides boys and girls, grades 2-6 the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four sports - basketball, soccer, tennis and track & field (50 meter dash and standing broad jump). We have practiced the events in PE class. The contest is based on SKILLS like dribbling, shooting, rallying a tennis ball, etc. Jr. Olympic Skills Competition encourages youth participation in sport and emphasizes fair and friendly competition.
Participation in Jr. Olympics is voluntary. Students can participate in any or all of the individual sports. Each sport is scored individually, boys and girls compete separately, and groups are as follows: 2nd grade, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th.
For those students who wish to participate, a parent-signed registration form must be turned in by Monday, April 1. Forms will be sent home on Wed., March 13th.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each sport, each age group, and each gender will receive a ribbon for their accomplishment. The 1st place winners will also be invited to compete at the DMUSD district competition in late May.
We need parent volunteers to help me run the event on April 3rd. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Coach Noonan at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
Thank you, in advance, for helping out with this fun competition at the Hills!
