Over the last several weeks, the Del Mar Union School District has followed the guidelines of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to prevent the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus. As recommended by the CDPH, students traveling from mainland China who have arrived in the United States since Monday, February 3 will be excluded from school for 14 days, beginning the day after they left China. At this time, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan do not have widespread transmission of the virus and are not considered part of mainland China for this guideline.
The health risk to the general public in California from novel coronavirus remains low. All students and staff can take common-sense precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious disease, including:
Staying home when sick
Covering coughs with a tissue or sleeve
Washing hands frequently
Routinely cleaning frequently touched surfaces
The District will continue to implement precautions as indicated by the CDPH and will provide additional information to parents and staff as it becomes available.
