School Closure Plan Update - 3/16/2020

Dear Parents,

All of us are living through an unprecedented time as we work to keep our communities safe and healthy in the face of the coronavirus.  For us, our highest priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our students during this uncertain and evolving health crisis.  We are committed to consistent and clear communication with you throughout this time period, and this includes providing a clear understanding of what will happen to support our children and families. I want to assure you that we are here for our children and families.

Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, schools are closed.  We have set a tentative time window for this closure, knowing that we will need to reevaluate whether circumstances necessitate an extension beyond the previously stated date of March 27th.  All school activities and meetings, including parent-teacher conferences, will be postponed during school closure.

On Monday, March 23, 2020, we will be moving to a remote learning model, which means online resources will be provided to all students during school closure.  These resources can be accessed via any internet connected device, including computers, tablets, or Chromebooks.

For families that need a device, the District will be providing Chromebooks.  Chromebooks can be signed out at your child’s school on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  Please see below for pick-up times for your child’s grade level.  Please only pick up a Chromebook if your child will need this device to access these resources during the school closure.  If you have children in multiple grade levels, you can pick up a Chromebook during whichever timeframe best meets your needs. Pick up will be in the form of a drive-through opportunity in front of your child’s school.

Chromebook Pick Up Times on Tuesday, March 17, 2020:

K-2 - 9:00 am

3-4 - 10:00 am

5-6 - 11:00 am

In addition, we have received information about available access to broadband internet from Spectrum and Cox.  Information related to these offers is available at the links below.

We know our children are eager to learn and these work-from-home resources are intended to support and engage them in learning. Your child’s teacher will be in contact with you via email on Monday, March 23, to share more about what is to come regarding learning from home.

We know this is a difficult time, and we are working hard to make sure we support families in every way we can. The health and safety of all in our community are most important at this time.  We are with you, partners in education, in our wonderful DMUSD community.  We have talented students, educators, and staff, and together, we know we can do amazing things.

We will continue to communicate with you in the coming days.  I encourage you to visit this website daily for more information and updates.  Should you need any support, please know we are here to help.

Sincerely,
Holly McClurg, Ph.D.
Superintendent
