School Closure Plan Update, 3/27/2020
Dear DMUSD Families,
I hope this finds your family healthy and happy! This past week has been a whirlwind of activity behind the scenes in our District! We have an amazing team districtwide – people who are committed, engaged, and optimistic about the steps we are taking to to support student learning. In just a very short period of time, so much has been done! Online learning platforms have been launched. Staff members have been learning how to teach remotely. Teachers have begun providing learning resources for students, and currently, we are planning for next steps in this phase of remote learning for our students. We anticipate having more opportunities for interaction and connectivity for students and teachers.
We continue to monitor federal, state, and local orders and guidelines regarding the pandemic. At this time, school closure continues to be locally controlled by school district superintendents, based on guidance from the San Diego County Office of Education and the San Diego County Department of Health and Human Services Agency. Most recently, we communicated that our schools are closed and will not reopen prior to April 13. Given the status of the pandemic in California, we are anticipating that school closure will extend beyond that date. We will provide notice to you right away regarding closure date changes.
Thank you for the positive and productive feedback we have heard from so many of you. As you can imagine, this has been a big undertaking and there are many staff members working around the clock to provide for our students while schools are closed. Please know we are only an email away, and I encourage you to reach out if we can help your family. We appreciate you as partners in ways we have never known before! Thank you, as always, for your patience and support.
My best to your family,
Holly McClurg, Ph.D.
