Student Registration Information

Dear DMUSD Families,

During the week of March 15, 2021, currently enrolled DMUSD families will receive a Student Placement Form via email in order to register their child for the 2021-2022 school year. On the Student Placement Form, parents will be asked to select either In-Person School or Launch Distance Learning. Families are encouraged to read the information below regarding both In-Person School and Launch Distance Learning so that families are prepared to complete and return the Student Placement Form no later than March 31, 2021.

Starting on April 12, 2021, new students can start turning in registration paperwork for the 2021-2022 school year. Forms and information are posted on the district website at https://www.dmusd.org/Page/6510.

In preparing for the upcoming school year, it is important that families are aware that all children will be registered to attend In-Person School unless parents or guardians certify it is necessary for their child to attend Launch Distance Learning due to COVID-19 related circumstances. DMUSD is an In-Person district and most children thrive in a learning environment rich with face-to-face peer and teacher interaction.

In-Person School: The Educational Program in DMUSD

  • There have been no transmissions of COVID-19 student-to-student, student-to-adult, or adult-to-student in DMUSD. All reported cases have been the result of community exposure.
  • Safety protocols will continue to be followed until further notice from the San Diego County Department of Public Health.
  • When possible, school practices will return to pre-COVID normal operations.
  • We anticipate all in-person adults will have had access to the COVID-19 vaccine prior to school starting in August, 2021.
  • School hours will return to pre-pandemic schedules as soon as possible.
  • Class sizes are undetermined for 2021-2022 due to the unknown COVID-19 conditions.
  • We will welcome parents and volunteers back to school campuses as soon as we are able to do so.
  • Del Mar Heights students will remain relocated at Ocean Air School and Del Mar Hills Academy. Transportation for Del Mar Heights students will continue to be provided.

Launch: Temporary Distance Learning in DMUSD

  • Launch is intended to meet the needs of students who are unable to attend in-person learning due to COVID-19. Launch will be available because of the pandemic and will only be in place for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • All children may not be successful in Launch. All students have different learning styles and Launch requires high levels of independence and sustained attention. This can be hard to achieve in a virtual learning environment. Most children thrive in a learning environment rich with face-to-face peer and teacher interactions, which is a hallmark of in-person learning.
  • Launch will be an independent program in DMUSD and not affiliated with a school site.
  • A one-year commitment to Launch will be required. After the start of the school year, transfers between Launch and in-person will require an approved intradistrict transfer and will be determined on a case-by-case basis. If it is requested that a student transfers out of Launch, the student will be placed at a school within the District, if space is available.

The DMUSD staff is already beginning to plan for the successful start to the 2021-2022 school year.  We are excited about what lies ahead as we move through the pandemic and look forward to welcoming the vast majority of our students back to school sites in August 2021. Thank you for your partnership and support.
