Principal's Weekly Message

 

CDM Families:

Our annual Volunteer Breakfast is coming up this Friday on May 24th at 7:30 am. Please join us for a delicious breakfast as a thank you for your support of our school community this year. No RSVP is necessary and we will provide supervision on the playground on this day starting at 7:30. We hope to see all our amazing volunteers there!

Many thanks for those involved in our recent community events! The International Showcase was a great success and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did! Thank you to everyone who participated, shared food, performed and to the numerous parents and students who volunteered to plan the amazing showcases. This event is an enormous collaborative effort from the entire community! Special thanks to Sarah Buzi, Ying Yang, Xin Zhou and Karthik Srinavasan for making it happen!

Also, we are proud of our CDM Dragons who competed in this year's Science Field Day competition. We are excited to celebrate their achievements at our end of the year Awards Assembly. Thank you to Mrs. Munoz and all our volunteers for donating your time and efforts to this program.

Lastly, thank you to Jeff Hatter and the CDM Dad's Club volunteers for bringing back the laser tag event this year. We appreciate all your work! We’ve already heard it was a blast for all who attended.

Upcoming News and Announcements:

DMSEF Final Fundraising Campaign:

As we approach the end of the year, DMSEF is having its final fundraising campaign. CDM is currently at 52% of our overall fundraising goal for the year, but with your help, we can do it!  You can make a difference in your child's STEAM+ program for next year.  Every dollar helps and every contribution matters. 

For this final campaign, when we reach:

  • $10,000, the PTA will donate a much-needed touchscreen monitor to the Tech Lab!
  • $30,000, we will celebrate with a drawing for some lucky family donors to win great prizes from Bay Club, Cycle Bar, BJ's and more!  See attached flyer for more details.

Plus, every family who donates at least $100 will get a free kid's pass to Legoland!

Please consider donating today to help us keep the robust STEAM+ program we have here at CDM.

CDM Talent Show: Message from Mrs. Peck

Remember…the 26th annual CDM Talent Show is coming! All students are invited to join us in celebrating the amazing talent we have at our school. Potential performers need to sign up for a try-out on Monday or Tuesday, May 20th and 21st. Results will be posted on Thursday, May 23rd at 2:30.

There will be a mandatory meeting for all stage crew, announcers and performers on Friday, May 24th at lunch (11:45). Rehearsals begin the following week and performances will be June 6th and 7th, 2019. Let’s have some fun at the end of a fantastic year!! See attachment for more information.

CDM Jr. Olympics Awards Assembly

Our annual Jr. Olympics Awards Assembly will be on Wednesday, May 22nd from 11:15am-11:45am. If you have a child who placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event or were involved in events in which they will be receiving a ribbon for their accomplishment, we encourage you to attend this fun celebration (and don't forget to bring your camera!). All 1st place winners have been invited to the DMUSD Finals on June 2nd.  Let's wish all those students advancing to the finals good luck!  Please contact Coach Brand vbrand@dmusd.org  with any questions.

Animals for the Summer: Message from Mrs. Munoz

The Zoo Crew animals need a good home to stay during the summer break. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about responsibility and try on a pet at home. If you are considering taking care of an animal, but are planning a vacation, many families share animals by taking turns during different weeks of the summer vacation. I have the following animals that need a home:

•          Romeo and Juliet the Red Canaries

•          Leroy the Milk Snake

•          Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

Yearbooks are on sale NOW!

If you did not purchase a yearbook at the beginning of the year and wish to purchase a copy, they will be available while supplies last for $35 on the PTA website www.carmeldelmarpta.com Sales will end on June 2nd, 2019 at midnight.

Yearbooks will be distributed to the children in their classrooms during the last week of school.

Those who already purchased a yearbook at the start of the school year were notified by email - note that the message goes to the email you used for your PayPal purchase of the yearbook.

PTA Board Position- still open

The CDM PTA has the following opening for next school year: 

Assemblies Coordinator/Chair

Responsibility:  Coordinate Assemblies /Guest speakers (such as Imagination Machine)

*Can be done from home by email; approximately 1-2hrs/month or less
