Superintendent Update, 7/13/2020

Dear DMUSD Families,

You may have heard the announcement that Los Angeles Unified School District and San Diego Unified School District will resume instruction this fall in a fully online format. This message is to provide you with an update on our district’s planning.

The Del Mar Union School District continues to be committed to developing plans to resume in-person instruction at all of our school campuses at the start of the school year on August 24, 2020.  We are doing everything we can so that all students have the opportunity to safely resume in-person learning, and so that we will have the safe return of students, teachers, and staff to our schools. In addition, preparations for Launch (distance learning program) are in full swing and the program will be ready to begin at the start of the school year.

Del Mar Union School District staff will continue to monitor the guidance and requirements being updated by the Governor’s office, California Department of Public Health, and the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency in order for all of us to return to our schools in August. Thank you for your understanding as we process the high volume of changing information. Our priority continues to be the health and safety of our students and staff. The uncertainty of these times makes it necessary to remain flexible while also maintaining a steadfast commitment to doing whatever we can in our children’s best interests.

We plan to hold a live webinar for parents next week with specific information regarding in-person school and Launch distance learning. The date and time of this webinar will be emailed to all parents in advance of the meeting.

I look forward to providing additional updates as they become available.

Holly McClurg, Ph.D.
