Family:
Katherine is a native of Del Mar, graduating from Del Mar Heights in 1990. She is the proud mother of two daughters and one son. Her older two children attend Del Mar Hills Academy.
 
Education:
Katherine attended Del Mar Heights, Earl Warren, and Torrey Pines High School. She received a BA from UCSD in Latin American Studies with a minor in Spanish Literature. She completed an undergraduate study abroad program in Mexico City. She received a Bilingual Multiple Subject Credential through SDSU, and also through a unique study abroad program in Queretaro, Mexico. She earned a Pupil Personnel Services Credential and MS in Educational Counseling from National University.

Professional:
Katherine has served in the field of education for twenty years at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She has worked throughout San Diego County and in Mexico. She taught first grade in Poway Unified at a dual-immersion school, worked as a school counselor and at-risk intervention coordinator at Hoover High School in San Diego Unified, and taught high school Spanish for five years at University City High School. She currently works as a high school counselor at a local high school. 

Community Service:
Katherine enjoys giving back to organizations like the California Coastkeeper Alliance and Surfrider Foundation by participating in various beach preservation efforts. She is involved with the Del Mar Foundation and contributes to Doctors Without Borders.

Board Responsibilities:
Katherine is serving her second term as an elected member of the school board. She is currently serving as the Board Clerk, Board representative to the Legislative Action Network (LAN) and alternates with other members as Board Liaison to the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF). She is a Masters in Governance recipient.
