English Language Learners

English learners in DMUSD are provided with a high-quality program with the goal of achieving academically at high levels as they acquire English language proficiency.  
 

Parent Committees

District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC)
The role of the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) is comprised of representatives from each school.  The role of the committee is to provide input on programs and services on programs and services for English learners, the district's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), and Consolidated Application (ConApp).  
 
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
Schools are required to establish an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) when there are 21 or more English Learners. The role of the ELAC is to provide input on the school's/district's program for ELs and advise the School Site Council on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement, assist the principal and staff on the school's needs assessment, the school's annual language census (R-30), and efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

BrainPop ESL is dedicated to teaching English to students all over the world through animated movies, exciting study tools, quizzes and fun games:  http://esl.brainpop.com/
Activities for ESL Students has grammar and vocabulary practice for all levels, including many bilingual quizzes for beginners. Also includes a link for teachers, with conversation questions, games, and many other ideas to put to use in the classroom:  a4esl.org
ABCYa is a website includes educational games organized by grade level, from 1st to 5th, and is particularly good for spelling and phonics. There are games to practice vowels, uppercase and lowercase letters, Dolch sight words, synonyms and antonyms and more:  www.abcya.com
Language Guide is an online picture dictionary, with everything from the alphabet to parts of the body to farm animals:  languageguide.org/english
